How Voltranker scores a car

First published methodology. Seven pillars, launched alongside the initial 4W rankings.

These are the car-scoring rules for methodology v1.0. They are kept here so historical rankings stay auditable. The methodology in force today is v1.1.

The 7 pillars

Nobody types a pillar score or a final score. Editors enter measured raw data — warranty length, ground clearance, service-centre count, price, real-world range, and the rest. Absolute pillars are derived from that data against the published threshold tables below. Value is scored relative to the other cars in the same price tier. The composite is the weighted sum of the pillars.

Weights are the same for every car in every tier. Ranking happens within a tier only.

What each pillar measures

Value

Weight 22%

Ex-factory and estimated on-road price against what the car delivers in range, features, equipment and warranty, measured within the tier. A cheap car is not automatically good value, and an expensive one is not automatically bad. Similarly, an expensive car is not automatically the best value and a cheaper version is not automatically worse.

Reliability

Weight 22%

Vehicle and battery warranty terms as published for Pakistan. Longer transferable cover scores higher against the threshold table.

Performance

Weight 23%

Real-world range, DC charging rate and battery capacity — the usable energy and recharge ability of the car, scored against fixed thresholds.

After-Sales

Weight 12%

Official service-centre count and whether there is an authorised Pakistan dealer network. Coverage outside the major cities is what the input is meant to capture.

Company Trust

Weight 12%

How long the brand has operated in Pakistan and whether it maintains an official dealer presence. Commitment length is the measured input.

Pakistan Road Suitability

Weight 5%

Ground clearance in millimetres against fixed thresholds written for Pakistani road surfaces.

Market Sentiment

Weight 4%

Owner survey score where a sample exists. Weighted lowest among the pillars because sentiment is the softest evidence we hold.

Threshold tables

Every absolute pillar score is produced by reading one measured input and matching it to the first band that fits, top to bottom. Band scores are authored on a 1–10 scale and stored as 0–100. Value has no bands — it is relative within the price tier.

If a required input is missing, that pillar does not score. A car with any unscored pillar is excluded from rankings rather than ranked on a partial composite. The composite is the weighted sum of the 7 pillar scores using the weights above.

No car threshold tables are stored for v1.0.

The engine only publishes bands it can execute. This archived version keeps its pillar weights for audit; the threshold bands that originally produced its scores are not loaded in the live table, so they are not shown here.

Rules that constrain us

  • No manual adjustment

Pillar scores and the composite are derived on save. No editor, and no administrator, can type either.

  • No cross-tier ranking

Cars are ranked within tier only. Rank is stored as position inside a tier — there is no site-wide leaderboard field.

  • Ties share a rank

Equal composites in the same tier share a position and are labelled Joint #N. The next car takes the next free place (standard competition ranking).

  • Incomplete means unranked

If any pillar is unscored, the car is excluded from rankings entirely rather than ranked on a partial score.

  • Every pillar shows its working

Each car page can open the measured input and the threshold band that produced that pillar. A challenge is reviewed against those same figures.

  • Every change is logged

Old value, new value, who changed it, when, and under which methodology version. The log is append-only.

  • Commercial is separate

Verified status lives on the company record and is unreadable by any scoring function.
